For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
Matthew 16:25 (NIV)
In today's verse, we come face to face with a call to sacrifice. It is a call to let go of our mere temporary, earthly life for a life that is eternal and divine. But this letting go does not equate to death or loss; instead, it implies a transformation from what is perishable into something that is imperishable. In this scripture, we are shown how our temporal desires and pursuits can never compare to the lasting joy and peace found in Christ.
As we step into our days, it is easy to get entangled in the never-ending chase for worldly success, recognition and satisfaction. But these earthly rewards will never truly satisfy our hearts. Our Creator designed us to find our ultimate fulfillment in Him. Therefore, we must constantly remind ourselves to focus on things above and let His love guide us in all of our pursuits.
Holding onto our life, as we know it, can leave us empty-handed. So, Jesus beckons us to surrender - to lose ourselves in His great love story, so we may truly begin to live. If we lose our life for His sake, we gain it back tenfold - filled with His unimaginable love, grace, and fulfillment.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to remember that in losing ourselves, we find You. Guide us to look past the temporary and seek the eternal treasures found only in You. Strengthen us and embolden us to live out our faith unwaveringly, knowing that true fulfillment and joy can only come from You. We surrender our desires to You, asking that Your will be done in our lives. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, our Savior. Amen.
