Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)

In our reading today, we come across a convicting exhortation to all parents. We are called to the role of spiritual caretakers for our children, a role that demands our attention, patience and understanding.

Our society often promotes achievement and success as the primary goals for our children. But in contrast, God's word urges us to focus on their spiritual development, to nurture them in His ways. This is the most valuable inheritance we can pass on. Not just knowledge or worldly wisdom but a deep, genuine love for God and His truths.

We must also guard against provoking our children to anger. As parents, our words and actions have a profound effect on our kids. It’s important to exercise our authority with gentleness, not stirring up resentment or discouragement in their hearts. Instead, we should strive to cultivate an environment of love and respect, guiding them towards maturity in Christ.

Today's Prayer:

Dear God, Help us to be good stewards of the precious lives You’ve entrusted to us. May we lead our children in Your truth and guide them with wisdom and love, not causing them to stumble but inspiring them to walk in Your ways. Help us create a nurturing environment that leads them closer to You each day. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
