But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Philippians 3:20 (NIV)

Today's verse wonderfully reminds us of our lasting inheritance as children of God. It is easy to get entwined in the anxieties and preoccupations of this world, forgetting where our true citizenship lies. We can often prioritize our earthly goals over our heavenly calling, leading to misplaced priorities and a disconnection from our deeper purpose.

As believers, we should remember that we are citizens of heaven. This does not mean we pull out of our obligations here on earth. Instead, it calls for us to live with an eternal perspective, aligning our objectives, actions, and passions with what is eternal and unchangeable - God’s Kingdom.

Our reading today kindles in us a sense of anticipation and longing for the kingdom we belong to. It evokes deep longing for Jesus' return, motivating us to live lives worthy of our lofty calling. As we journey through life, this heavenly mindset propels us to seek God’s will in everything we do, knowing that our ultimate destination far surpasses the temporal joys and challenges of this world.

Today's Prayer:

Loving Father, remind me daily that my true home is with You. Help me to align my thoughts, deeds, and desires towards Your kingdom. Amid the hustle and bustle of worldly responsibilities, keep my heart anchored on the promise of eternal life with you. As I wait for the return of Jesus, give me courage and strength to live a life pleasing to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
