[The Narrow and Wide Gates] “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
Life often presents us with a multitude of choices, and it can be challenging to discern the best path to take. Our reading today brings to light two distinctive paths: the broad, easy way and the narrow, difficult way.
Upon examining our lives, we may realize that societal pressures often urge us towards the wide gate. It's generally easier, more popular, and doesn't require much sacrifice or resistance. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to challenge the status quo and take the less traveled route - the narrow gate.
The narrow path is not for the faint-hearted. It demands faith, commitment, and integrity. It calls for us to take up our cross daily, surrender our desires, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. While this path may seem daunting, we must remember the promise of eternal life that awaits us at the end.
As we strive to navigate life's decisions, let us be mindful of today's scripture. May it serve as a reminder to avoid the easy way out, and instead seek the narrow road that leads to life, irrespective of its challenges.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for guiding us on the narrow path. Strengthen our resolve and help us resist the allure of the wide gate. Provide us with the courage to make difficult decisions that honor You. Remind us daily of the promise of eternal life that makes the narrow path worthwhile. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
