Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Psalm 90:2,4 (NIV)
Our reading today reminds us of God's eternal nature and the brevity of our earthly existence. We are often consumed by our daily routines, forgetting to look beyond the passing moments into the boundless expanse of eternity.
God's concept of time is not like ours. A thousand years are as a day to Him. This perspective shifts our focus from the fleeting worries of our day-to-day lives to the timeless purpose for which we were created.
In contrast to God's eternity, we are here momentarily, akin to the night-watch that ends swiftly with the arrival of dawn. Yet, even though our earthly lives are brief, they hold significance in God's grandeur design.
As you go about your day, remember this vast contrast between our momentary existence and God's unchanging constant. Let it inspire awe, evoke humility, and stir up a longing for the eternal home prepared for us. God's eternal perspective should not make us feel insignificant but rather remind us of our eternal significance in His grand design.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to see life through Your eternal lens. Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. May we not get lost in the mundanity of life but seek Your eternal purpose. Remind us daily of our transient nature on earth and our lasting eternity with You. In the name of Your Son, Jesus, we pray, Amen.
