so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:28 (NIV)
Considering the implications of today's scripture, we are reminded of the incredible, powerful promise Christ has bestowed on us He will appear again, not to deal with our sins but to rescue those eagerly awaiting His return.
This verse gently nudges the curtain aside, so we can peek into the profound mystery of Christ’s sacrifice. Just as He came once, wrapping Himself in flesh to bear the brunt of our sins, so he will come again, and this time, it will be to usher us into His everlasting Kingdom.
Let us unpack this great hope a bit further. Deeper understanding yields deeper joy. In a world that demands instant gratification, the concept of waiting may seem relatable yet challenging. We are called to wait, not passively but with eager anticipation. Waiting is not about doing nothing but getting ready for what is yet to come, ensuring our hearts are right with God and aligning our lives to His will. In essence, we are preparing ourselves for eternity.
We are sinners, saved by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. And this wonderful promise in our reading today reassures us that our future in Him is certain because His promises never fail!
Today's Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I am in awe of Your love for us, such that You sent Your only Son to bear our sins and promise us salvation. Help me, Lord, to wait eagerly with expectant hope for Your second coming. May my life reflect my faith, and may my actions glorify You while I prepare for eternity with You. Thank you for this precious assurance of salvation. I pray all this in Jesus' Holy Name, Amen.
