I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21: 2-4 (NIV)
Today's reading invites us into a beautiful vision of hope. We are presented with the scene of a new heaven and a new earth, a place where God's ultimate purpose for creation has been fulfilled. As believers, this image provides us with comfort and anticipation for what awaits us in eternity.
The scripture paints a vivid picture of a heavenly city, descending as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. This metaphor reaffirms God's love for us, reminding us that we are His cherished bride, prepared and made holy for an eternal union with Him.
In our earthly journey, we often face hardships and tears, but our reading today reassures us of God's promise to wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain in this divine place. This thought encourages us to persevere through present trials, always remembering that these momentary troubles are not worth comparing with the eternal glory that's to come.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to hold onto the hope of your promised new heaven and new earth. Grant us the strength and courage to persevere through life's challenges, knowing that our current sufferings do not compare to the joy and peace that await us in Your presence. Thank you for your love that comforts us and gives us hope. May our hearts remain steadfast as we eagerly await the day when You will wipe every tear from our eyes. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
