[Life by the Spirit] You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
In a world where the cry for freedom and independence is louder than ever, today's verse shares a perspective on what true spiritual freedom means, especially for followers of Christ.
Our reading today reminds us that we have been given an incredible gift of liberty. But this liberty is not just a release from bondage or fear, it's a call to service. It's an opportunity to live our lives in a way that reflects the love of Christ through serving others.
It's easy to think of freedom as a ticket to self-indulgence. But that's not the freedom Christ died to give us. The freedom we have in Christ is more about gaining the ability to serve God by being a blessing to others. This kind of sacrificial service beautifully mirrors the love that Jesus shows us daily.
Let us then remind ourselves today and every day that our liberty in Christ, is not an excuse for selfishness. Instead, we've been set free to serve, to love, and to glorify God in all we do.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the freedom You have given us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to understand that this gift is not a license for selfishness, but an invitation to serve. Lord, imbue us with your love and compassion, so that we can extend these to those around us. Enable us to effectively use our freedom to bring glory to Your name. We ask these in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
