Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

In our world today, it's an unfortunate reality that bitterness, anger, and resentment often dominate our interactions. It could be the surge of these negative emotions within us towards a loved one, a friend, a coworker or even with ourselves for our past mistakes. This is why today's verse is particularly significant. It calls us to a radically different approach.

The scripture reading challenges us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other as God in Christ has forgiven us. This can be difficult to navigate especially when we have been hurt or wronged by others. But Christ's teachings remind us, we are called to something greater - to love unconditionally, just as He has loved us.

Being tenderhearted means being compassionate, understanding, patient, and ready to forgive. God's kindness isn't merely an emotion; it's a choice, an action, a way of life. So just as Christ has shown us unmatched mercy and grace, we are commanded to extend that same grace to others. Remember, when we forgive others, not only does it set them free, but it also liberates us from carrying around the weight of resentment and bitterness.

Today's Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please fill our hearts with Your kindness and compassion. Even in trying times, may we remember to show mercy as You have shown us. When forgiveness is hard, remind us of the grace You've extended to us through Jesus Christ. Strengthen us to walk in love, as Christ loved us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
