[Dealing With Sin in the Church] “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.
Matthew 18:15 (NIV)
In today's verse, we are guided towards a path of reconciliation and hope. We are taught the importance of resolving our conflicts directly, with gentleness, love, and respect. This lesson is an epitome of Christ's wisdom, who promotes peace and unity among His believers.
Our scripture reading sheds light on how to approach those who may have wronged us or caused us discomfort. It prompts us to confront these situations not with anger or resentment but with understanding and grace. Instead of resorting to backbiting or allowing bitterness to fester in our hearts, we're instructed to lovingly communicate and seek resolution.
Jesus' teachings in Matthew 18:15 isn't about assigning blame or proving oneself righteous. It's about healing, restoring relationships, and reflecting Christ's love in our day-to-day interactions. It's about the courageous act of reaching out, the humble act of admitting our part in the conflict, and the merciful act of granting and seeking forgiveness.
We must remember that every believer is a part of the body of Christ. By resolving our disputes in a manner that honors God, we strengthen His Church and demonstrate the power of His love.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, grant us the courage to face conflict with grace and love. Help us to be humble in approach, earnest in communication, and quick to forgive, as Your son Jesus has taught us. Give us wisdom and understanding in resolving disagreements, so we may strengthen our bonds and glorify You in all we do. We pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
