[Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom] For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)
Today's verse reminds us of a powerful truth that can seem like a paradox. To those who are on the outside looking in, the message of the cross might seem nonsensical. It may even induce mockery or disdain. They might question the value in a Savior who would allow Himself to be crucified and see it as a sign of weakness or defeat.
But for those of us who have tasted the sweetness of His grace, and who live drenched in the peace that flows from His wounds, we know otherwise. We understand that what seems to the world as foolishness is actually the deepest wisdom, and what appears as weakness is truly unfathomable strength. The cross, a symbol of suffering and humiliation, is for us a beacon of hope and redemption.
The world sees death; we see life. The world sees defeat; we see victory. The world sees an end; we see a beginning. Because to us, the cross is more than mere wood and nails—it’s the place where love won, life triumphed and our eternity was secured.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for the wisdom of the cross. Thank You that what appears foolish to the world is the source of our salvation. Please open our hearts and minds and help us to see beyond worldly wisdom and to cherish the glorious contradiction of the cross. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
