Unfailing Grace and Forgiveness
Feb 20, 2026
Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
Proverbs 17:9 (NIV)
Our reading today presents a powerful lesson on the nature of love and forgiveness. In this fast-paced world where judgments are passed quickly, taking a step back to understand and forgive can be a great testament of love. It is easy to expose someone's wrongdoing, but it takes bravery and grace to cover those faults with the blanket of mercy.
This scripture reading sheds light on unconditional love - the kind that doesn't hold onto anger, but discards it willingly. This same love that God models for us is the kind we should strive to give others. By seeking to forgive, we foster unity and protect our relationships from division and strife.
Moreover, the action of love and forgiveness is not simply a one-time act, but a continuous process. Like a gardener prunes a tree for it to bear more fruit, so must we constantly prune our hearts from harboring resentment.
Today’s Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your unfailing love and forgiveness towards us. Guide us to extend that same grace to those around us, even when it's difficult. Instill in our hearts the persistent aim to love and forgive, just as you do for us every day. Strengthen us, Lord, so we may become shields of unity, fostering peace and understanding. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
