Embracing the Love Command
Feb 16, 2026
[More on Love and Hatred] For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
1 John 3:11 (NIV)
In our reading today, we are gently reminded of a fundamental call of our Christian faith. This seemingly simple instruction is in fact the essence and core of what it means to follow Christ. It speaks of love - not as an emotion, but as a command.
Often, we erroneously view love simply as an affectionate feeling towards those with whom we share a bond. But, the scripture today goes beyond this definition. It is a divine directive to expand our hearts beyond the confines of family and friendship, to embrace even those who seem least lovable to us.
This is a tough calling. It's not always easy to exhibit such boundless, selfless love. Yet that's what makes it precious. It transforms our hearts, softens our stances, and allows us to reflect God's love, a love that knows no bounds, no prerequisites, and no prejudices.
Today’s Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your unending love that inspires us each day. We pray for the strength and courage to emulate this love in all our interactions. Help us to love beyond boundaries, and foster unity in our communities, just as You desire. We ask this in the powerful name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
