Spirit and Truth
Jan 28, 2026
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:24 (NIV)
The essence of true worship, as revealed in today's verse, reaches beyond the prescribed rituals or specific places. It demands that we engage both our spirit and our understanding.
God is spirit, and He seeks those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. This means a worship from the innermost part of our being - our spirit, guided by the Holy Spirit; and our intellect - truth as revealed in God’s word. Engaging in prayer, singing praise, and reading God's Word are ways we participate in this form of worship. We commune with God from our hearts, not just from our minds or emotions. It requires a personal encounter and relationship with God.
Worshiping in truth means worshiping God as He has revealed Himself in His Word. It involves recognizing God for who He truly is, acknowledging His sovereignty, His love, His justice, His grace, and responding to Him accordingly.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, teach us to worship You in spirit and truth. Deepen our understanding of Your Word and fill us with Your Holy Spirit. May our lives show forth a reflection of Your character and Your love. Let our worship extend beyond rituals and resonate within our daily walk with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
