The Power of Persistent Prayer
Jan 22, 2026
[Ask, Seek, Knock] “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)
In our reading today, we are reminded of the incredible power and effectiveness of persistent prayer. God's Word encourages us to ask, seek, and knock, in the assurance that He will respond to us, open doors for us, and provide for our needs.
Asking signifies humble dependence on God - a realization that without Him, we can accomplish nothing. Seeking involves effort, an active pursuit of God's will and perspective. Knocking indicates persistence, a willingness not to give up until we receive what we sought.
Jesus offers these words as a guarantee, not simply as a suggestion. He assures us that when we earnestly engage with God through prayer—when we ask, seek, and knock—we won't be left empty-handed. We have a Heavenly Father who hears our prayers and responds with love and wisdom, giving us not only what we think we need, but what He knows we truly need. He wants us to persist in our prayers, trusting Him, even when the answers aren't immediate or what we expected.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to never underestimate the power of persistent prayer. Grant us the faith to believe, the courage to seek, and the patience to persist. As we bring our needs before You, remind us of Your constant love and unfailing wisdom. May we always trust in Your perfect timing and Your perfect will. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
