Reaping Life's Harvest
Jan 21, 2026
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
Galatians 6:7-8 (NIV)
In our reading today, we are reminded of a basic truth found in nature and spiritual principles alike: sowing and reaping. The image of a farmer scattering seeds across a field comes to mind; it is a beautiful metaphor for our lives. Each thought, word, and action we release into the world is like a seed sown. The question is, what kind of seeds are we sowing?
The scripture reading talks about two types of seed - seeds sown to please our sinful nature and those sown to please the Spirit. This doesn't necessarily mean committing terrible acts; rather, it speaks of our motivations. Are we acting out of selfish ambition or out of love for God and fellow human beings?
When we focus on pleasing the Spirit, we sow seeds that sprout into life, joy, peace, and eternal benefits. On the contrary, if we allow ourselves to be driven by our sinful nature, we'll harvest seeds of emptiness, regret, and destruction.
Each day, we face this choice: To sow seeds of the Spirit or of the flesh. It is a daily decision that shapes our lives, our character, and our eternal destiny.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to sow seeds that please Your Spirit. May our words, thoughts, and actions align with Your divine love, so that we might reap a harvest of righteousness. Strengthen our resolve to turn away from the desires of our flesh and nurture the seeds of your Spirit in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
