Embracing the Freedom of Truth
Jan 15, 2026
[Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus’ Opponents Are] To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32 (NIV)
In today's verse, Jesus is giving us an open invitation to a life of freedom. He is urging us to continue in His word, which is the pathway to becoming His disciples. Not mere hearers or casual followers, but true disciples who walk closely with Him, absorbing and applying His teachings to our daily lives.
The keyword from our reading today is 'truth'. Being honest about our vulnerabilities can be difficult. It's human nature to mask our struggles and pretend that all is well. But God knows us intimately, imperfections and all. He is not asking for perfect people but for those willing to unveil their hearts, allowing His light to shine upon all areas of their lives.
It is the truth that sets us free -- removing burdens, breaking chains, and leading us into genuine freedom. Our freedom lies not in worldly possessions or achievements, but in the vibrant, liberating, life-affirming truth found in Jesus Christ. In knowing and accepting this truth, we are set free.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord, guide us to reside in Your truth. Help us to become true disciples, living transparently before You and others, embracing the freedom that Your truth brings. Renew our minds, change our hearts, and lead us into a deeper relationship with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
