Loving the Invisible through the Visible
Jan 14, 2026
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
1 John 4:20-21 (NIV)
Understanding God’s love for us can be challenging at times. We cannot see Him, touch Him or audibly hear His voice, yet we are asked to love Him completely. How do we love someone we cannot see? Our reading today provides a beautiful solution.
Today's verse reminds us that if we claim to love God, whom we've not seen physically, then we must show our love to those we see daily. Our neighbors, colleagues, friends, and even strangers are physical representations of God’s creation.
God's love is not insular; instead, it manifests itself in our relationships with others. To say we love Him while harboring hate, resentment, or ill-will towards any person is contradictory. It's almost like claiming to enjoy the warmth of the sun while refusing to step out of the shade.
Let our love for God inspire us to love people more because by loving them, we are loving Him. When we extend kindness, forgiveness, and compassion to others, we're demonstrating our love for God in visible, tangible ways.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to love You more by loving others. Enable us to see Your image and likeness in every person we meet and interact with. May our actions reflect Your love, and may our lives become a testament to Your endless mercy and grace. Thank You for showing us how to love invisibly through visible actions. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
