Treasures of the Heart
Jan 9, 2026
[Treasures in Heaven] “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
Have you ever stopped to consider where your treasure lies? In a world that thrives on material wealth, it is easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Today's verse reminds us that the treasures we collect here on earth are not everlasting. They are perishable, subject to decay, and can be stolen.
Instead, we should strive to store up treasures in heaven, the permanent and perfect place of God’s kingdom. These heavenly treasures are joy, peace, love, faith, a pure heart, the Word of God, the souls won for Christ, etc. These are incorruptible and eternal. The accumulation of these treasures pleases God and ultimately fulfills us, unlike earthly wealth which can never truly satisfy or bring lasting happiness.
Where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. If our hearts are centered on earthly possessions, it becomes difficult to fully focus on God. But when our hearts are filled with heavenly treasures, we become more attuned to God’s will and can experience a deep and meaningful relationship with Him.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to set our hearts on things above, not on earthly things. May we strive to store up treasures in heaven, seeking Your Kingdom first. Grant us the wisdom to understand the true riches of life are found in You. Help us to live each day for Your glory and honor. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
