So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Luke 2:16-20 (NIV)

The shepherds, after hearing the angelic announcement, rushed to see the newborn Messiah. They found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus just as they were told. Enthralled by the sight, they shared the good news, spreading the seeds of joy among others. You can imagine the amazement of all who heard the shepherd's testimonies. Mary, however, held a different response. She treasured these things, pondering them in her heart.

How often do we, like the shepherds, experience God's wonders and simply rush on to the next thing? Do we take the time, as Mary did, to reflect upon God’s unfolding miracles in our lives? Mary shows us the beauty of quiet reflection. She teaches us the value of pondering over God's extraordinary works. She demonstrates how to hold and treasure divine encounters in our hearts.

Today, let’s follow Mary’s example. Let’s not only seek God's wonders, but also take time to ponder over them in the silence of our hearts. In doing so, we deepen our understanding of God's character, His love for us, and His remarkable plan for our lives.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious lessons imparted through today's reading. Help us to not only seek Your wonders but also reflect deeply upon them. May we, like Mary, treasure and ponder Your marvellous deeds in our hearts. Strengthen our commitment to take time out for quiet reflection upon Your unwavering love. Teach us the beauty of silent awe, dear Lord. We pray all these trusting in the marvellous name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
