[The Birth of Jesus] In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.

Luke 2:1, 4-5 (NIV)

Today's verse reveals a profound demonstration of obedience. Joseph and Mary, despite facing personal inconveniences, faithfully followed the decree issued from Caesar Augustus. Their commitment to authorities and law, even when it required great hardship, is an example for us all.

We often find ourselves in situations where God's directives seem challenging, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. But like Joseph and Mary, we are called to embrace these journeys of faith, trusting in the One who guides us — because every step taken in obedience brings us closer to the fulfilment of His plans.

Their journey wasn’t easy. It was filled with discomforts and uncertainties. They could have questioned the timing, especially considering Mary's pregnancy. However, their faith didn't waver. Just like them, our obedience could very well lead us into paths that are hard and filled with doubts. Yet, it is in these trials that we are refined and made worthy for the glory that is to come.

Let's follow the example of Mary and Joseph, submitting to the authority of God and man, and remember, the journey may be long and arduous, but it's always worth it in the end.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Lord, grant us the spirit of obedience. Strengthen us to follow Your lead, even when the path seems difficult. May we trust in Your guidance, just as Mary and Joseph did. We ask this in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
