Divine Assurance in Dreamtime
Dec 17, 2025
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:20-21 (NIV)
Dreams can often seem trivial or nonsensical, yet from our reading today, we find that God used a dream to guide Joseph at a critical juncture. The Divine communication wasn't only assuring him about Mary's innocence but also revealing the extraordinary identity of the child she carried.
Here's the beautiful blend of Divine sovereignty and human obedience. On one hand, God in His providence orchestrates events and communicates His purpose; on the other hand, we as humans need to faithfully discern and follow that direction.
Like Joseph, we too may face situations that seem to defy logic and human understanding. It might be a difficult decision, a bitter experience, or a challenging season. But let us be comforted by the truth that God can and does break into our confusion bringing divine clarity and direction. His guidance may come through different channels - maybe not dreams, but Scripture, godly counsel, or peaceful confirmation in our heart. We must remain open, sensitive, and obedient.
Today’s Prayer:
Gracious Father, thank You for the ways You guide us. As we seek your wisdom in our lives, open our hearts to discern your will. Help us to be obedient, even when your guidance defies human understanding. Thank you that like with Joseph, You have a unique plan for each of us. May we trust in your providence, knowing You are leading us towards a perfect and holy purpose. In Jesus' Name, we pray. Amen.
