But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:30-33 (NIV)
The divine message received by Mary in today's verse is one that resonates with us even in our modern lives. A young woman was chosen to perform a role far beyond her experience, filled with uncertainties and probable adversity. But she was told, "Do not be afraid." The reason for this divine comfort stemmed from the mighty purpose behind her calling.
This scenario may be familiar to us. God often calls us into situations far beyond our understanding or perceived capabilities. They can seem daunting and, like Mary, we may find ourselves asking, 'how can this be?' But, just as it was with Mary, our fear is often met with His assurance. We need to remember that our calling has a divine purpose.
God's plans are always greater than we can comprehend. He reigns over all things and His kingdom will never end. When He calls us, it is for a purpose that contributes to this everlasting kingdom. Hence, there is no room for fear, rather an opportunity for faith. Remind yourself of Mary's courage and trust in God. Embrace your divine purpose fearlessly, knowing that it is part of His grand design.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, In times of fear and uncertainty, help me to remember Mary's bravery and the promise You made to her. Guide me to accept Your call and embrace the purpose You have carved out for me. Grow my faith, Lord, so I may step into my divine calling fearlessly, knowing You are with me and Your plans are greater than my fears. In Jesus's name, I pray. Amen.
