[The Birth of Jesus Foretold] In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
Luke 1:26-28 (NIV)
In today's reading, we witness the marvelous moment when the angel Gabriel approaches Mary. He doesn't appear with a judgement or command, but with a beautiful greeting, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
What would it mean for us if we internalized this message? If we truly believed we were highly favored by God, that He was with us at every moment? It's easier to believe in our own unworthiness than to accept God's grace. Yet, as we see in Mary's story, His grace accepts us as we are.
Mary’s story helps us to understand a fundamental truth about our relationship with the Almighty; God’s grace is not earned. It is a free gift bestowed upon us. And like Mary, we are chosen, loved, and favored not because of what we do, but because of who He is.
In accepting Gabriel's message, Mary became a vessel for God's love to enter the world. Today, may we follow in her humble footsteps, trusting that we too are recipients of His unending favor and are never alone.
Today's Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace that embraces us even in our imperfection. Help us to see ourselves through Your eyes, as chosen and beloved. May Your favor lead us, inspire us, and make us vessels of Your love in this world. We trust in Your unwavering presence within us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
