Knowing and Being Known
Dec 6, 2025
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John 10:14-15 (NIV)
Today's scripture reminds us of the intimate relationship between the Good Shepherd and His sheep. As believers, we are the flock under His care, and He knows us in a way that only the divine shepherd could. Christ acknowledges us individually, knowing our strengths, weaknesses, desires, and fears. This knowledge isn't distant or detached; it's closely bonded with love and care.
Our reading today also enlightens us about the depth of Jesus' sacrifice for us. He willingly laid down His life driven by His love and knowledge of us. The Shepherd did not merely risk His life, but deliberately gave it up. He valued us, His sheep, above His own life. Such act of selfless love is beyond our human understanding. But it helps us to realize the worth we have in God's eyes.
This profound knowledge carries an invitation for us. We are called to know Jesus as intimately as He knows us. To comprehend the depth of His love, His teachings and to let His spirit guide and shape our lives. The more we know Him, the more we recognize His voice and follow His lead in our journey of life.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord, we thank You that You know us deeply and love us unconditionally. Lead us into a deeper relationship with You, teaching us to know You as intimately as You know us. Strengthen us to follow Your voice, drowned in the chaos of this world. And remind us daily of Your sacrificial love which grants us eternal life. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
