He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 3:6 (NIV)

Our reading today reminds us that we have been made capable ministers of a new covenant—not based on the enslaving letter of the law, but on the liberating Spirit of God.

This treasure we hold within us is not merely a set of rules or regulations, but the very life-giving Spirit of God. The writer contrasts the old covenant, which brought condemnation and death because it was impossible for humans to keep every law, with the new covenant, where freedom comes by living in the Spirit.

While the old written law can be suffocating, the Spirit breathes life and meaning into every situation we face. The Spirit empowers us to live, not by striving to keep a list of do's and don'ts, but by walking in grace and freedom. We are no longer bound by the written law, but freed to love and serve God wholeheartedly through the divine enablement that comes from His indwelling Spirit.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for granting us this new covenant, under which we are no longer slaves to the law but free to serve You in the power of Your Spirit. Ignite our hearts with Your life-giving Spirit, so we may live lives that radiate Your love and grace to the world around us. Strengthen us to focus on You rather than trying to check off boxes on an endless list of laws. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
