Respecting God's Authority
Nov 3, 2025
[Submission to Governing Authorities] Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Romans 13:1 (NIV)
In today's reading, we are asked to recognize and respect all forms of authority, because every one of them has been established by God Himself. This brings up an essential point in our journey with God. We often forget that every structure on earth, including the leadership, was divinely appointed. Whether it is our boss at work, our parents, our government authorities, or our church leaders, they are all placed in positions of authority by God, for a specific purpose.
Our human instinct may question or even criticize those in power, especially when their actions seem unfair or contradictory. We must remember, however, that respecting authority isn't necessarily about agreeing with everything they say or do. Rather, it's about acknowledging God's hand in their appointment and trusting His infinite wisdom.
As we go about our daily activities, let us strive to develop a respectful attitude towards those in power, knowing that God, who appoints all authority, works in ways we cannot comprehend. As followers of Christ, it's not our role to pass judgement but to pray for wisdom for those in authority and for ourselves to understand God's purpose behind each appointment.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to honor and respect those you have placed over us. Fill our hearts with humility and understanding. When we question the authority around us, remind us to look to You and trust in Your wisdom and divine appointments. We pray for our leaders, asking for Your direction and wisdom in their lives. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
