Gift of Grace
Oct 30, 2025
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
Our reading today illustrates a profound truth that needs to be wholly absorbed and deeply cherished - our salvation is a gift from God, not based on our own works. It's a challenging concept for our generation, where we're often taught to equate our worth with our achievements and successes. However, God presents us with a completely different paradigm.
Imagine the most precious gift you've ever received. Did you have to earn it, or was it given out of sheer love? The giver delights in your joy, not in tallying up what you did to deserve it. In a similar manner, the salvation we receive from God is a freely given gift. Our Father doesn't require us to earn His love or prove our worthiness; He simply asks us to accept His offering of grace through faith.
Salvation is not about our abilities or deeds, so that no one can boast. It’s about God’s immeasurable love and mercy. The humility that stems from acknowledging this truth brings forth gratitude and a deeper understanding of God's benevolence. We are loved, cherished, and saved simply because of His immense grace.
Today’s Prayer:
Gracious Lord, thank you for the incredible gift of grace you've extended to us. Help us to understand that our salvation is not earned but freely given out of your unending love. Teach us humility, that we may not boast in ourselves, but only in your great mercy and love. Thank you for loving us far beyond our understanding. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
