In the Hands of the Living God
Sep 26, 2025
For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 10:30-31 (NIV)
In today's reading, we are reminded of the seriousness of our actions and the importance of living righteously. The scripture reference paints a clear picture of the consequences when we fall into disobedience and rebellion against the Lord. Reiteration is made of God's sovereignty and the reality that He is a 'consuming fire'.
The imagery of the 'fearful expectation of judgement' can be daunting but look beyond the fear, it is about love; a love so deep that it doesn't want us to perish but to have eternal life. A love that is jealous for our hearts and souls because He knows what is at stake.
We should not read this scripture with a mindset of fear, rather, let's be stirred by the sincere love God has for us and the length He would go to draw us back to Himself. Remembering this principle will help us to walk in obedience, devotion, and respect for God.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your consuming love. Help us to understand the depth of Your love, realize the severity of sin and strive daily to live lives pleasing to You. Guide us so we may never take Your grace for granted, but instead, live in constant gratitude and obedience. In Jesus' name, Amen.
