Embracing Acceptance
Sep 22, 2025
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
Romans 15:7 (NIV)
In our reading today, we are reminded of the beautiful picture of Christ's welcoming love. His acceptance of us pierces every barrier — outer and inner, self-imposed or otherwise. It transcends our weaknesses, our failures, and our insecurities. This divine acceptance is not merely a passive nod; it is an active embrace, a pulling close despite our flaws and shortcomings.
The scripture reading encourages us to assimilate this heavenly virtue into our earthly interactions. Just as we have been accepted, we are called to accept others. This command is greater than mere tolerance; it speaks of warmth, understanding, and genuine love. This is not always easy. We encounter people who differ from us in myriad ways - in beliefs, values, and lifestyles. Yet, we are asked to love them, mirroring the grace we ourselves have freely received.
Acceptance, however, does not imply approval of every action, especially those that contradict biblical truths. Instead, it espouses a love that is patient and kind; a love that earnestly desires the best for the other, just like our Lord desires for us.
Treading this path of acceptance is not without its challenges. But with the strength of Christ in us, we can extend the same kindness and forgiveness that He has lavishly showered upon us.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, fill us with the spirit of acceptance. May our hearts echo the warmth and love that You have shown us. Strengthen us while we strive to show this acceptance to others, even when it's difficult. Let our actions remind others of Your great love for them. We ask this in the glorious name of Jesus, our Savior. Amen.
