Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

Today's reading reminds us of the tremendous power our words carry. Every syllable we utter can have a profound effect on those around us, either enriching their lives or causing harm. We are encouraged to ensure that everything we say is good and beneficial. This does not imply that every word should praise or flatter; rather, it means each should be truthful, kind, and constructive.

The scripture reading does not just refer to our verbal speech but extends to all forms of communication. It includes our digital interactions such as emails, texts, and social media posts. Just as an encouraging word can elevate someone’s spirits, a negative comment can cause distress.

As Christians, our aim should always be to use our words as instruments of God's kindness. When people interact with us, they should feel uplifted, not defeated. They should feel the love of Christ through our words. Indeed, by controlling our language, we become better witnesses for Christ, demonstrating His love through our everyday interactions.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to always speak words that are pleasing to You. Enable us to use our language as tools of your grace, bringing joy and comfort to those around us. Teach us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Let the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight. Guide our tongues so that each word, utterance, or digital post edifies and does not tear down. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
