Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

Our reading today reminds us of the great authority that has been given to our Lord Jesus Christ. This is not just an earthly authority, but power over all things, both in heaven and on earth. With this authority, He commands us to go out into the world, spreading the good news of salvation and making disciples of all nations.

This mission may seem daunting, and rightly so. It is not an easy task to carry out; it involves stepping out of our comfort zones, venturing into unfamiliar territories, and oftentimes facing rejection and ridicule. But here's where the beauty of our reading comes to light. Jesus does not send us out alone. Instead, He promises to be with us always, even to the end of the age.

It is this promise that gives us confidence and courage to fulfill the great commission. The knowledge that the One who holds all authority is by our side should inspire boldness in us. It should motivate us to share His love courageously, knowing that we are backed by the supreme authority Himself.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the privilege of partnering with You in sharing Your gospel. We ask for your guidance and wisdom as we step out in faith to fulfill Your Great Commission. Strengthen us with the certainty that You are with us, even till the very end. In your mighty name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
