Embracing Hate for Evil
Feb 7, 2025
Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Psalm 97:10 (NIV)
In our reading today, we are reminded about the importance of rejecting what is evil in God's sight. The psalmist urges us to despise wickedness, not out of judgment for others, but out of love for what is holy, divine, and righteous. Our heavenly Father desires our hearts to be aligned with His, a heart that hates evil and loves goodness.
In our daily lives, it can often be challenging to cultivate this hate for evil, especially in a world where the lines between right and wrong are frequently blurred. As believers, we must seek God's wisdom and discernment. This scripture reading encourages us to marvel at the purity of the Lord's justice and turn away from actions and attitudes that grieve Him.
Moreover, the verse reiterates God's faithfulness in protecting His beloved children from harm, while delivering them from the grip of wickedness. What a gracious promise! As we develop a disdain for evil, let's also take comfort in knowing that our God stands as a loving shield around us, safeguarding us from the damage of sin.
