Embracing Servant Leadership
Jan 29, 2025
Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Mark 9:35 (NIV)
In our fast-paced world where many are striving to be the best, today's verse redeems a potent message about the Kingdom values. Jesus, through his divine wisdom, challenges our understanding of greatness. In a world where greatness is often equated with power, influence, and material worth, Jesus' teaching inverts these worldly metrics. He proposes a different view, a kingdom perspective - greatness is in serving.
Jesus doesn’t discourage ambition or aspirations, but he redefines what it means to be truly great. His life was the epitome of servant leadership, living not for his own wants, but for the needs of others - to love, heal, comfort, and eventually give His life as a ransom for all. His words, then, serve as an invitation for us to step out of the worldly race of comparison and self-promotion. Instead, we're to invest ourselves in the humble, often unnoticed act of serving one another.
This path might seem unfamiliar and contrary to our worldly ideas. Still, in embracing servant leadership, we find true fulfillment and experience the transformative nature of Christ's love, which compels us to put others before ourselves.
