Cultivating Noble Thoughts

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

In the landscape of our minds, thoughts are seeds sown daily. Our reading today reminds us that we are the gardeners who choose what seeds we plant and cultivate. True, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy - these are the seeds the apostle Paul encourages us to sow in the gardens of our mind.
The world presents us with an array of seeds; not all of them bear fruits of peace and joy in our lives. It's easy to allow seeds of worry, anger, envy, or impurity to find their way into our minds. Today's verse, however, directs us towards the good seeds, urging us to focus on the positive aspects of life and shun the negatives.
Just as a gardener actively weeds out unwanted plants, we too should be proactive in driving out unwelcome thoughts. Sowing the right seeds isn't enough; we need to nurture them too. And nurturing noble thoughts means consciously feeding our minds with wholesome messages, positive experiences, and uplifting affirmations.
We should take time, pause in this fast-paced world, and reflect on the seeds we have been planting in our minds. If we see that the weeds of negativity have taken over, it’s never too late to start afresh, to reach out for those noble seeds and plant them diligently in our minds.
