Restoring One Another in Love
Jan 24, 2025
[Doing Good to All] Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
Galatians 6:1 (NIV)
In today's scripture reading, we are reminded of the role we ought to play within our Christian communities. Just as Christ showed compassion and forgiveness, we also are called upon to bear one another's burdens with a spirit of gentleness. This means recognizing each other's humanity, acknowledging that everyone struggles, and choosing love over judgment in every instance.
It is easy to point fingers, condemn, or distance ourselves from others when they falter. But this is not how Christ responded to us when we were still lost in sin. His response was love, mercy, and an outstretched hand of grace. And so, our response to our brothers and sisters should mirror Christ's grace-filled disposition.
We are tasked with gently restoring the fallen ones, walking alongside them, supporting them, and carrying their burdens with them. This is true discipleship - being Christlike in every aspect of our relations, particularly during the tough times. As we do this, we build a community that reflects Christ's love.
