A Heart-Set on True Treasures
Jan 9, 2025
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
Our world increasingly celebrates material possessions as a measure of success. Society often gauges our worth by the house we live in, the car we drive, or the designer clothes we wear. Yet, today's verse reminds us that all these worldly treasures are temporary and fleeting.
Instead, Christ encourages us to seek everlasting treasures, ones that cannot be ruined, stolen, or lose their value. These treasures aren't physical ones, but rather virtues like love, kindness, humility, and faith – treasures of the heart and soul.
Aligning our hearts with these eternal treasures shapes our character, strengthens our relationships, and affirms our faith. But more importantly, it aligns our hearts with God, for where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. It's an invitation to place heavenly values over earthly assets, faithfulness over possessions, and to embody a lifestyle that reflects the teachings of Christ.
