How to Pray Through Decisions
Feb 22, 2026
Decisions become clearer when we pray through them with a simple, repeatable grid. Try these five movements: (1) Clarify, (2) Scripture, (3) Listen, (4) Counsel, (5) Act in peace. Clarify: Name the decision in one sentence. Identify non?negotiables (obedience to Scripture, integrity) and distinguish them from preferences. Define the horizon—do you need an answer today, this week, or this quarter? Scripture: Choose two or three passages to anchor your motives and boundaries (e.g., Proverbs 3:5–6; James 1:5). Pray them slowly, asking God to purify desires and expose blind spots. Listen: Sit quietly for five minutes. Note recurring themes, cautions, or invitations. Test impressions by Scripture and the character of Christ. Counsel: Share the decision with one or two mature believers. Ask for prayer and honest feedback. Pay attention to consensus, not pressure. Act in peace: When options remain, choose the path that best aligns with Scripture and serves love. Take a small step, then review: “Did this increase peace, holiness, and fruit?” Adjust as needed. Prayerful decisions are less about perfect foresight and more about faithful steps with God.
