Praying the Names of God

God’s names reveal His character and invite specific trust. Praying the names of God shapes adoration and petitions with precision. Begin by choosing one name for a week and praying it into your real situations. Jehovah?Jireh (the Lord will provide) for provision needs. Jehovah?Shalom (the Lord is peace) for anxiety. Jehovah?Rapha (the Lord who heals) for sickness. Good Shepherd for guidance and care. Practice a three-part pattern: adore, align, ask. Adore—praise God for who He is in this name. Align—yield your perspective to what this name reveals. Ask—present concrete requests consistent with His character. For example, “Jehovah?Jireh, I praise You as my provider; align my desires with contentment; provide wisdom and resources for this bill.” Build a small list of names and associated scriptures (Genesis 22, Judges 6, Exodus 15, Psalm 23). Write a sentence prayer under each. Teach families or groups to take turns choosing a name and offering a one-sentence prayer. Over time, praying God’s names deepens worship, strengthens trust, and clarifies requests. We don’t persuade a reluctant God; we anchor in the faithful God He has already revealed Himself to be.
