Living for Christ
Aug 18, 2025
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21 (NIV)
Our reading today reminds us of the immense value that our lives hold in Christ. The Apostle Paul proclaims a profound truth that to live is Christ and to die is gain. This powerful statement acts as a compass, directing our hearts towards the ultimate purpose of our existence — knowing and glorifying Jesus.
In every breath we take, every encounter we have, and every task we undertake, we are presented with an opportunity to reveal the love, grace, and mercy of our Savior. Living for Christ means embracing the joy, the peace, and the strength that comes from being in communion with Him. It also requires surrendering our personal desires and ambitions to the will of God, trusting in His perfect plan for our lives.
But equally comforting is the second part of today's verse. Even as we face trials, suffering, or even death itself, we can find solace in knowing that our final home is not here on earth but with our Lord in heaven. To die is indeed gain when we look at it through the lens of eternity.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of life in Christ. Teach me to fully embrace the calling to live for Jesus, surrendering my own will to Your perfect plan. As I navigate the joys and trials this world presents, remind me always that my true home lies with You in heaven. Through suffering and even death, may I continue to find gains in Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
