Purifying Ourselves for Holiness
Aug 16, 2025
Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)
In today's reading, we are reminded of the need for purification in our walk with God. Our lives teem with countless influences and distractions that strive to pull us away from the path of righteousness. We must be vigilant and avoid anything that could contaminate either body or spirit.
We have been given a great promise. It is the joyous invitation to become the people of God — a chosen generation and royal priesthood. However, achieving this requires our conscious efforts and dedication. The journey towards perfection may seem daunting, but it starts with small steps. Begin by addressing the areas where contamination might exist in our lives - it could be a seemingly harmless habit, a toxic relationship, or an ungodly mindset.
Aim at perfecting holiness as directed by today's scripture. Remember, holiness is not merely about avoiding wrongdoing; it's also about pursuing what's right and godly. By the grace of God, we can improve every day. Our Heavenly Father, knowing that we are not perfect, is patient with us. He will guide us as we refine ourselves in the reverence of Him.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for Your Word that constantly reminds us to purify ourselves and pursue holiness. Lord, we ask for Your guidance as we strive to better ourselves and shun all forms of contamination. Help us to perfect our holiness out of reverence for You. As we take this journey, may we always find comfort and strength in You. In Jesus' Name, we pray, Amen.
