Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)

In today's scripture reading, we are reminded of the profound truth that our bodies are not merely physical shells but temples of the Holy Spirit. This means you and I have been entrusted with a holy space, much like those tasked with the upkeep of the Jerusalem temple in biblical times. Our primary responsibility is to honor God by taking diligent care of this temple.

Often we might feel inadequate, broken, or less than perfect. However, we should remember that our true value is not determined by the world's standards but by the price that was paid for us. God considered us precious enough to purchase with the most valuable currency - the life of His Son.

The practice of honouring our bodies is a direct reflection of our gratitude towards God. It transcends mere physical upkeep to include our thoughts, words, and actions. Knowing that the Holy Spirit resides within, we should strive to be a fitting dwelling place, treating ourselves and others with love, kindness and respect.

Today’s Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to always remember that I am your temple. Guide me to honor You in all that I say and do. May my life reflect the great love and sacrifice You made when You bought me at a high price. Teach me how to properly care for this temple, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and to respect others as temples of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
