I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.

Psalm 119:60 (NIV)

Today's verse encourages us to take immediate action when confronted with the revealed truths of God's Word. It serves to remind us that we should not delay in obeying what we have learned from the teachings of Scripture. The Psalmist made haste—he rushed—to keep God’s commandments as soon as he understood them. Such was his love for God and his desire to please Him.

In our Christian walk, sometimes we can find ourselves procrastinating in our obedience to God. Whether it's forgiving a neighbor, giving joyfully, witnessing to a friend about Christ or standing firm against a particular sin, there are times we fail to respond promptly to God's clear directive. However, our reading today calls us into immediate action—the practice of decisive obedience.

For the Psalmist, obedience was not burdensome but a joyful response to God's infinite love. The same should be our disposition. When we comprehend the depth of God's love for us, we will find joy and fulfillment in immediate obedience, despite the sacrifices it may require.
