Our Heavenly Father's Care
Jun 17, 2025
Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
Psalm 68:4-5 (NIV)
Our reading today paints the picture of God as both a triumphant King and a tender caregiver. The joyous procession and singing that characterizes a victorious parade is the backdrop against which this dual image of God is presented. Although these two aspects might seem contradictory, they instead reveal the multidimensional nature of our God - how He is both powerful and compassionate, and how His love for us amalgamates these qualities perfectly.
Today's verse assures us that we have a defender in God who takes special care of the fatherless and widows. In God, we find a protector who holds the weak in high regard and provides for their needs. This image allows us to fully grasp His deep love and commitment towards us. As we seek to understand more about God's character, let us not overlook the warmth and compassion encapsulated in His heart.
It is encouraging to know that even in our weakness, we are never forgotten or overlooked by God. Instead, we are cherished and protected under His care. Let us then find comfort and strength, knowing that we are loved by an all-powerful but tender-hearted Father.
