Heavenly Citizenship

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Philippians 3:20 (NIV)
Our reading today reminds us of our true home, not in this world, but with Christ in heaven. Indeed, as believers, our citizenship belongs to heaven. This fact serves as a refreshing reminder, especially for those times when we feel out of place, misunderstood, or marginalized because of our faith.
Earthly citizenship often comes with certain rights and privileges, but also obligations and burdens. But as heavenly citizens, our rights include freedom from sin and death, while our assignment is to love God and to love each other, living lives that reflect the goodness and grace of God.
This present world, marred by sin and brokenness, often leaves us longing for something more, for perfection, for peace. The scripture reading assures us that these longings point us towards our true home in heaven.
With our eyes fixed on our heavenly citizenship, let us strive to live in such a way that reflects our heavenly home. Let us share love, extend grace, seek justice, and walk humbly, showing others the beauty of God's kingdom here on earth.
