Gentle Words, Tender Hearts speaker

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:1 (NIV)

In our reading today, we are reminded of the power our words possess. So often we can be tempted to respond in anger or frustration, to give as good as we get, but today's verse encourages us to tread a different path.

The principle being presented here is simple yet profound. By choosing to respond with gentle words instead of harsh retorts, we can disarm tension and potential strife. This is not about being weak or passive, but showing strength and self-control which comes from the Lord. A harsh word incites anger, fueling a fire that is destructive and harmful. But a gentle answer? That quiets the storm. It doesn't feed into the negativity, but rather diffuses it.

Each day presents an opportunity for us to live out this wisdom. It could be a conversation with a co-worker, dealing with a trying child, or interacting with frustrating situations. In every situation, we have a choice. Shoot fiery arrows with our tongues or speak in soft whispers that soothe and heal. Let us make a conscious effort to choose the latter.
