Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.

Romans 15:2 (NIV)

The message embedded in today's verse reminds us of a fundamental virtue that each follower of Jesus should aspire to -- the spirit of encouragement. We have been given the command to lift others up, to help them become better, and to support them as they face life's trials.

This is not always an easy task, especially when we ourselves may be feeling burdened or overly taxed. Yet, this instruction serves as a poignant reminder that our journey as believers is not simply about ourselves but about how we can help others navigate their own paths towards God.

Encouraging others is not about pandering or providing hollow praise. It is about being genuinely attentive to the needs and challenges of others, and helping them find the strength within themselves to overcome these. In serving one another in such a way, we honor God's will for us to love one another as He loves us.
