Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:30 (NIV)
In a world that often places physical beauty on a pedestal, today's verse reminds us of what truly matters in God's eyes. It is not the outward appearance that God values, but the character and heart of a person. Beauty can be deceitful, and it is fleeting - something that all of us will inevitably lose as we age. But a woman who reverently fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
This is not just for women, but for all believers. Male or female, young or old, all are called to cultivate this holy fear of the Lord. This reverence is not a fear that seeks to hide from God, but rather a profound respect and awe for His holiness and sovereignty. This is a fear that recognizes our own frailty and sinfulness in light of God's greatness and goodness. It is a fear that leads to humility, obedience, and true wisdom.
So rather than chasing after fleeting beauty, let us strive to grow in our reverence and love for God. That is where true value and honor lie. In the image of Christ, we find an eternal beauty that the world can never take away.
