[Dealing With Sin in the Church] “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.

Matthew 18:15 (NIV)

In life’s complex journey, disagreements and misunderstandings can emerge even among the best of friends. Today's scripture reading reminds us how to navigate such situations with love and wisdom.

When someone we care about does something that hurts or offends us, the Bible offers a guide on how to handle it. It calls us not to carry resentment or anger, but instead to approach the person who wronged us privately first, aiming to restore the relationship in a spirit of humility and forgiveness.

This isn’t always easy; our innate defense mechanisms may urge us to retaliate or dismiss the issue without resolution. But Jesus asks us to be different. He wants us to value relationships more than our ego. To seek reconciliation is a testimony to the self-sacrificing love that Jesus demonstrated on the cross. Our aim should be to live in harmony with all, as far as possible.

Remember, the goal is not to accuse or condemn, but to seek understanding. Honest conversations can induce personal growth and strengthen bonds, paving the way for healing. Therefore, let us take courage and strive to repair any troubled relationships in our lives, just as God lovingly restores us every day.
