In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV)

In a world that prizes self-assertion and honor, today's passage paints a different picture of true greatness. The scripture reading shows the perfect example of humility in the person of Jesus Christ. He had equality with God - a position that could have been exploited for personal gain, yet He chose to set it aside out of love for us.

Jesus became a servant and humbled Himself in obedience to God the Father. He went down the deepest valley of suffering - even death on a cross. His humility was not seen as weakness, but a strength. Such humility is a radical act of selflessness and love. It's about putting God's will and other's interests above our own.

Christian life calls us to the same path. As followers of Christ, we are encouraged to take on a humble mindset. This does not mean belittling ourselves or becoming doormats. Rather, it implies knowing our worth in Christ and out of this secure identity, being able to act in love and modesty.
